Jessica Delorme Vancouver, Canada.
Raised in the western prairies, Jessica received her BFA in Painting at the University of Alberta. She has since migrated to Vancouver, finding inspiration in the spatial contrast of a city nestled between ocean and mountainscape. Her largely autobiographical work draws strength from the diverse layering of this physical and social environment; visual themes that explore questions on gender and identity construction, acknowledging the everyday anxieties and monotony brought about from urban expectations. Much of her results come from her aggressive process of forcing multiple compositions into one painting until it becomes overwhelming. The piece is only completed after stepping back and obliterating large elements. Because of this, the work becomes more and more painterly allowing the medium to show history, providing tangible content of addition through absence. Jessica consciously uses elements of her life that are accessible to a larger audience. In doing this she hopes to create a visual forum for dialogue that relates to a broader range of people.
